Nissan has developed a brand-new electricity storage pack that will go head to head against Tesla’s Powerwall storage unit. The company is already calling the battery pack the most affordable option on the market and will be testing out its popularity overseas before eventually bringing it to the U.S.
With a low price of just $4,560 (including installation) in Europe, the 4.2 kWh model of Nissan’s xStorage battery pack is a great option for buyers. It trumps Tesla’s 6.4 kWh Powerwall, which starts at $3,000 and finishes off with a total of $7,000 after installation. Additionally, the xStorage offers a wide range of incredible benefits that will appeal to current Nissan LEAF owners.
The biggest advantage of the new xStorage is its ability to store energy during off-peak hours when it’s the cheapest. The energy can then be resold back to the grid when costs and demand are up, benefiting owners. On top of this plus, the battery pack also offers smartphone connectivity, making it easy to use.
Considering its benefits, we hope the new Nissan xStorage battery pack does make its way to the U.S. market in the near future. Check back at our blog regularly for updates regarding the xStorage and its potential arrival here in the States.
