The rise of electric vehicles on the market has Nissan considering adding more variants to its existing lineup. According to recent reports, the automaker is thinking about electrifying their SUV range, specifically the standout Juke and the popular Rogue.
In an interview with Autocar, Nissan’s Electric Vehicle Divisional General Manager, Gareth Dunsmore, spoke briefly about Nissan’s plans to electrify models in their SUV lineup. He was quoted saying, "We're leaders in crossovers and a leader with Leaf and we will combine those two in the future.” He then went on to say he hopes car buyers begin to look at EVs as environmentally friendly and cost-efficient alternatives to gas-powered vehicles.
Aside from this exciting piece of news, Dunsmore also said the company would look into producing smaller electric cars in order to meet the needs of different buyers. At this time, we do not know when any of these alleged electric cars will see the light of day, but we’re hoping we’ll get some answers in the near future.
While electric SUVs might still be a few years away for Nissan, we can expect the next-generation Juke to arrive in 2017 with a brand-new plug-in hybrid powertrain option. You can look out for its arrival at Texas Nissan within the next year.
