Right before the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO made its debut at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, it made a stop at Jay Leno's Garage. NISMO chief engineer Zack Eakin took some time out of his busy schedule to speak to Leno about the innovative race car and give him an exclusive tour of the vehicle, including its standout features.
As a front-engine, front-wheel-drive race car, the GT-R LM NISMO is incredibly special. Up until now, mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive race cars have been the norm, but Nissan is ready to change this and show what a car with this layout can do in the Le Mans race. Strict regulations for LMP1 cars have encouraged Nissan's engineers to think outside of the box; and according the Eakin, the GT-R LM NISMO's design uses these restrictions to its advantage. By pushing the bulk of the downforce to the front of the car, Nissan hoped to take the automotive world by storm and deliver a strong performance at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Leno, who has become well-known for his love of cars, said he's excited about Nissan's GT-R LM NISMO and is happy to see the brand is "thinking on a different level." To find out additional info about the car and hear more from Leno, watch the full 24-minute video of the visit below.
